Where did you see it advertised?
I saw the apprenticeship advertised on Indeed and the TSB Careers website.
What was the application process like? Did you interview? How long did it take?
The application process was really straightforward. I wasn’t expecting it to be so easy! I sent my details away and in a short time, I received an email asking me to take part in a phone interview. I was made to feel really relaxed. I was then invited to an interview which involved a group discussion and a face-to-face interview. Again, that was a really relaxed atmosphere and everyone was really friendly!
What does a typical day look like? Who do you work most closely with? What sort of tasks do you do?
Every day is different in my role – I think that’s why I like it so much. Sometimes I am on the phones and sometimes I am off the phone helping the Management Team. I come in every morning, log on at my desk, and check a system which shows my breaks and what I’ll be doing for the day. If I’m on the phones, I log on and I get all relevant systems to take customer calls and to securely check their data. It’s really interesting. I get calls about everything from giving a customer their balance to logging a complaint.
What do you think you’ve learnt from your apprenticeship?
I’ve completely changed since starting my apprenticeship, I’ve really grown up. I’ve learnt so much! When I started my apprenticeship, I didn’t even know what a standing order was and now I have a qualification in banking.
What advice would you give to people looking to apply?
Do it! You’ll never look back. You’ll earn money and get a worthwhile qualification at the same time. It’s great!
What did you study at school?
I studied maths, English, science, business, food technology, history, religious education, law, and many other subjects. My favourite subjects had to be English, business, history, and religious education.
Did your parents influence your decision in any kind of way?
At first, my parents didn’t want me to get an apprenticeship as they didn’t think good companies offered apprenticeships. However, when I had a look online with them, they were really surprised at all the really successful businesses offering apprenticeships.
Did your parents have any reservations about apprenticeships at all?
No, not at all. As long as I’m happy and doing something I enjoy, they are happy.
