Things to remember before your UCAS event

A UCAS Discovery event is a chance to find out about traditional degrees, apprenticeships, careers, and more.

Here’s some things to remember before you come to the event, to help you make the most of your day.

  1. Plan how you're getting there

Check if your school/college has arranged transport for you. If you’re not visiting as part of a group, be sure to check the venue location before sorting any travel arrangements.
  2. Keep your ticket handy

You’ll need it to get in, but you can also ask exhibitors to scan your ticket, and we’ll send you personalised information, straight to your inbox.
  3. Wear comfy shoes

You’ll be on your feet for most of the day, so wear trainers or something you’ll be comfortable in.
  4. Choose at least three exhibitors you want to speak to

It’ll help you not get overwhelmed when you see all the different exhibitors, and keep you focused throughout the day.
  5. Prepare the questions you want to ask

This is the perfect opportunity for you to find out key information from colleges, employers, and student services. Check out our guidance on all the questions to ask at a UCAS event.
  6. Visit each type of stand

It’s okay to have a specific path in mind, but don’t rule out all the options. For example, even if you’re set on doing a traditional degree, have a look at degree apprenticeships to keep all your options open.
  7. Take down some notes on your phone

Make sure you jot down your thoughts and answers to questions, so you can look back at them later.

  • chat to unis and colleges about their courses and uni life
  • speak to employers and apprenticeship providers about what an apprenticeship is like and the options available
  • speak to qualified careers advisers about your future
  • listen to talks from experts in their fields
  • hang out with our UCAS experts to get dedicated support about your options

Do some research into who’s there and who offers relevant courses or apprenticeships. Pick at least 3 exhibitors you’re interested in speaking to when you get there and decide what questions you’d like to ask about the subject on the day. You’ll want to get insight into what modules are included, the teaching style etc.
