Why did you choose to study Economics?
I chose to study Economics because I had already studied it previously and enjoyed it, so I decided to continue.
What made you want to study in the UK?
I had visited the UK several times and enjoyed the country very much. I also wanted to continue my studies in English, and the UK gave me a perfect opportunity to do so.
What was your biggest worry about starting university as an international student?
My biggest worry was how I would do in university, as I didn't know what the studies would exactly be like. I was also worried about not getting along with my flatmates or not enjoying living here. Luckily, none of these turned out to be a problem!
What is the best thing about studying in the UK?
I enjoy the university courses very much, and I like that there's lots of diversity and international students. I also like having so much freedom in my studies; I can choose from a lot of additional courses outside my main subject.
How are you finding living away from home?
It's not my first time being away from home for a longer period of time, so it's not too difficult. However, it's my first time being completely on my own, so at times it feels slightly stressful, but I am doing fine overall. It's never too difficult to get back home if I really need to, which is comforting.
How easy/difficult was it for you to get financial support for your studies?
I am studying in Scotland as an EU student, so SAAS is paying my tuition fees. Getting the financial support was not difficult at all; the process was quite straightforward.
If you could change one thing about your university experience so far, what would it be?
So far, I don't think I would change anything. But if I really had to, I would maybe have stressed less in the beginning. I haven't had any major problems and everything has worked out quite well.
Do you have any advice for other international students who might want to study in the UK?
Research universities properly and really think about what degree you want to study. Research practical things like accommodation and flights in advance so you don't need to panic in the end.
