Summary

Promoting the value of the arts and humanities subjects (and other non-professional degree programmes) to students and their parents
Join an interactive conversation with a History lecturer and University Recruitment Managers and hear how arts and humanities degrees can prepare students for a successful career path. In some cases, parents are less likely to encourage their children to apply for arts and humanities subjects (and other non-professional degree programmes) choosing to instead encourage applications for vocational degrees such as Law, Medicine or Engineering, due to their clear routes to an established profession.

The session will discuss different types of degree programmes, their benefits and start an open dialogue with counsellors about some of the obstacles or challenges they’ve faced with parents when advising applicants towards non-professional degrees.

Learning outcomes:
Delegates will learn how to best support students (and reassure parents) who are considering applying to non-professional programmes in the UK:

  • Counsellors will learn the key benefits of studying arts and humanities subjects, as well as the nature of transferable skills and other career development programmes or opportunities within Universities
  • Potential career outcomes for students who study on non-professional degree programmes within the arts and humanities subject area.
